German Stepanovich Titov was born in 1935, in the village of Verkhnee Zhilino, Kosikhinsky District, Altai Territory. Soviet cosmonaut, the second Soviet man in space, the second man in the world to complete an orbital space flight, the youngest astronaut in history and the first person to complete a long space flight (more than a day). Hero of the Soviet Union, Doctor of Military Sciences.

The twentieth century allowed people from the villages to break away from the plow and fly into space. The village nourished science, culture, education. Thousands of contemporary artists, writers, scientists, businessmen come from the countryside. There were many reasons for this, but the main thing is that science, culture and education went to the village themselves. For a rural boy to fly into space, a modern school must appear in his native village 45 years before this event. And along with the school - a teacher, ready to travel to and from work eight kilometers a day on an old horse. Such was the "spiritual grandfather" of German Titov -Andrian Toporov, father's teacher - Stepan Titov.

Stepan Pavlovich Titov, German's father, was a writer, played many musical instruments, painted, wrote poetry and songs. During the war years, Stepan Pavlovich was at the front, and his wife and children lived with their parents in the commune of Mayskoye Utro, where German studied from first to third grade, he finished seven-year school in Polkovnikovo, and secondary school in the village of Nalobikha.

Since July 1953, German Titov served in the army. In 1955 he graduated from the 9th Military Aviation Pilot School, after the Stalingrad Military Aviation School, he served in combat units of the Air Force in the Leningrad Military District. In 1960 he was selected to the cosmonaut corps, where he became an understudy of Yuri Gagarin and a pilot of the second spacecraft Vostok-2, launched in August 1961.From 6 to 7 August 1961, German Titov made a space flight lasting 1 day 1 hour, making 17 revolutions around the Earth, having flown over 700 thousand kilometers. In flight, he had the call sign "Eagle". At the time of the flight, German Titov was 25 years and 330 days old, making him the youngest of all cosmonauts who have been in space. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 9, 1961, Major German Stepanovich Titov was awarded the title ofHero of the Soviet Union with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
