Memorial of Glory

Barnaul, Victory Square, 1

On May 9, 1971, the Memorial of Glory was opened on the Railway Station Square, from where during the war the Barnaul residents went to the front. It was created according to the projects of the honored artist and architect Pyotr Mironov and the monumental artist Vladimir Dobrovolsky.

The memorial includes four architectural structures. The thematic center of the first line, facing the square, is the bronze sculptural group Farewell (figures of mother and son) and a stele on a granite pedestal.

The second part of the monument is a platform, on both sides of which slabs with earth from 13 hero cities are mounted.

The heart of the Memorial of Glory is a broken ring of concrete redoubt. Inside there are heraldic copper bas-reliefs of eight types of troops, in front of each of which an eternal flame burns.

Another part of the memorial is the Monument from grateful descendants. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Victory, the complex was supplemented with a building bearing the names of Barnaul residents - full holders of the Order of Glory and Heroes of the Soviet Union.
