Ivan Ivanovich Polzunov came to Altai in 1748. At the Barnaul plant and the Zmeinogorsk mine he studied assay and mining.
I.I. Polzunov owns many technical improvements and inventions that facilitate the work of workers. At the Zmeinogorsk mine, he built a "saw mill" - a sawmill powered by water. He was the first in the world not only to formulate the idea of creating a universal heat engine, but also to carry out its construction according to his own drawings. A week before the test, the remarkable Russian innovator died of fleeting consumption.
In 1980, a monument to the inventor was erected in Barnaul (sculptor I. Brodsky, architects A. Shimin, G. Syromyatnikov).
