Altai Youth Theater

Barnaul, Kalinin Ave., 2

The first theater for children in Altai - the Altai Regional Theater for Young Spectators - opened with a theatrical performance on the stage of the Melange Factory Club in November 1958. Actors in the new theater were gathered from all over the country. Since its inception, the repertoire has included not only performances for children, but also performances of youth issues and classical plays. In the new century, the theater began to actively experiment with young direction, working for a youth audience.

During the first decade of the 2000s, the stage of the former Youth Theater, renamed the Altai Youth Theater (MTA), has undergone many innovations. The tone for this was set by the artistic director famous throughout the country - People's Artist of RussiaValery Zolotukhin... A native of the region, he directed the creative life of the theater from 2003 to 2013. The theater owes his efforts to the beginning of the reconstruction of its own building, which has been waiting for ten years. And in 2011, he finally got the undivided possession of the restored recreation center of the Melange Combine on October Square. In the interests of the theater, Zolotukhin nurtured a targeted set of acting courses of the Altai State Academy of Culture and Arts. And in 2010, these young actors formed the new backbone of the troupe.

MTA is loved by the public not only for interesting performances, but also for regular interactive projects. Here they arrange for the audience "art studies" - conversations with actors and invited directors, open creative laboratories for free visits. They hold lectures and master classes on make-up, theatrical costume, props and plastics. The Altai Youth Theater was the first in the region to invite school teachers to educational seminars on theater pedagogy and to create a theater studio for schoolchildren.
