Museum World of Stone

Altai Territory, Barnaul, st. Polzunova, 39
Private collection of S.I. Berger served as the basis for the creation of the first geological and mineralogical museum in Barnaul. It was opened by the non-profit partnership "Union of Craftsmen" with the support of the Altai Territory Administration with the aim of acquainting Barnaul residents and guests of the city with the rich variety of geological objects of their native land. Moreover, the acquaintance is presented through the prism of the history of the development of stone-cutting business in Altai.

The exposition of the Museum "The World of Stone" includes:
  • precious minerals (ruby, sapphire, emerald),
  • decorative and ornamental stones (jade, malachite, lapis lazuli, etc.),
  • paleontology (fossils up to 2 billion years old),
  • paleobotany (various types of fossilized plants),
  • collection samples of rocks and minerals,
  • ore resources of Altai.
In addition, in the exhibition halls of the museum you can admire the works of ornamental stone by Altai masters. Modern stone cutters not only take into account the nature and properties of each stone, but also use various techniques in their work. As a result, unusually skillful miniatures are obtained, exactly repeating the forms of living nature, be it juicy pomegranate bones, shiny frog skin, animal fur or transparent butterfly wings.
