The Intercession Cathedral is considered the main Orthodox church in Barnaul. Unlike most religious buildings, it was not destroyed during the revolutionary years and steadfastly endured the atheist regime, robberies and difficult war years.
The building of the cathedral was built in the pseudo-Russian (Byzantine) style of red brick. Internal interior in 1918-1928 was painted by the method of applying oil paints to dry plaster on religious subjects of paintings written by such masters of Russian academic painting as V.M. Vasnetsov, M.V. Nesterov, I.N. Kramskoy. The painting project was drawn up by the artist N.V. Shvarev, he also participated in the painting of the walls of the temple.
In the Intercession Cathedral there are four thrones (four-altar church): in the name of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, in the name of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, the throne of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, and also in the lower side-altar there is a throne in the name of the Holy Reverend Seraphim of Sarov.
