Chapel of Alexander Nevsky

Barnaul, Lenin Ave. / st. Nikitin.

The Orthodox chapel, named after the Grand Duke and Warrior, was erected on Moskovsky Prospekt Barnaul for four years. It was laid in 1868 to commemorate the rescue of Emperor Alexander II from an assassination attempt during his stay in Paris.

In the 30s of the last century, the chapel lost its dome and cross. Until it was demolished in the 1950s, it housed a water pump. In 2002, on the initiative of the director of the Unipharm company, a project for the reconstruction of the chapel was developed in the workshop of Alexander Dering. For four years it was recreated at the expense of Yuri Nizhegorodtsev. The painting of the temple building, which was performed by the Barnaul icon painter Igor Uglev, includes the faces of the Altai saints, whom the church canonized in 2000. The chapel was consecrated in 2006 on the day of commemoration of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky and his son Daniel of Moscow.
