Biysk

Biysk is located in the southeastern part of the Altai Territory on the Biya River

Biysk, the second largest and oldest city in the Altai Territory, is located on the banks of the Biya River. In 2009 Biysk celebrated the 300th anniversary of its foundation. Biysk is a member of the Union of Historical Cities of the Russian Federation. This is a city of unique architectural appearance, a city of monuments, an original page of Altai. In Biysk there are 272 monuments of architecture, history and culture, about 50 monuments of archeology, 11 monuments of nature.

Currently, the city is a large industrial, scientific, educational and cultural center with a developed socio-economic sphere, which has the proud status of a science city.

Biysk is a city through which the roads leading to the resorts of Chemal and Belokurikha, to Mongolia, to the world famous natural sites Mount Belukha and Ukok plateau, Teletskoye Lake and Denisova Cave pass. More than 2 million tourists pass through Biysk annually; it is a great platform, "base camp" for a close acquaintance with Altai.

The legendary Chuisky tract starts from Biysk. With the official assignment of the status of a road of state importance to it in 1922, almost all export-import relations between Russia and Mongolia are carried out through this city.

Where is

Biysk is located in the southeastern part of the Altai Territory on the Biya River, not far from its confluence with the Katun River, on the southwestern slope of the Biisk-Chumysh Upland. Part of the city is located on the left low-lying bank and is adjacent to pine forests. Distance to the city of Barnaul - 163 km, to Novosibirsk - 356 km, to Moscow - 3700 km, to the border with Mongolia - 617 km

How to get there

Intercity auto transport, railway. Personal transport. Modern highways connect Biysk with Barnaul, the federal resort city of Belokurikha, the Republic of Altai. The historical section of the M-52 highway - Chuisky tract begins here.

The Altai Territory is very large and diverse. The topography changes as you move through the territory. It is as if a growing bear, at first quiet and calm, then huge and majestic. So the steppes and plains grow into the foothills and the mountains.

Biysk welcomes guests traveling to the foothills and mountains of Altai. Before a long journey to nature, you can stop and see the museum and temples of Biysk.
