Altai region is not only a bright combination of landscapes, interesting flora and fauna and rich deposits of mineral and curative resources – it is also the region with a rich history of resort treatment in the best traditions of Russian resort school. Altai region is the leader of health resort business beyond the Urals. The region has rich curative factors, including the climate, a big number of sunny days, high air transparency and high degree of its ionization; mineral and radon springs and curative mud.

Over 46,5 thousand people can get the treatment in 669 places of accommodation. The region has over 44 health resort complexes, 8 children resort centers which can accommodate over 8,8 thousand people simultaneously. Annually, over 175 thousand people get the treatment in these places.

Altai region is also famous for its lakes, which number is over 13 thousand, including freshwater, salt and mud lakes. Salt brine of Bolshoye and Maloye Yarovoye Lakes, for example, is close to Sakskoye Lake in the Crimea, Tambukanskoye Lake in the Caucasus and to the resort of Slavyansk in Ukraine in its chemical composition. Over 40 thousand people visit these lakes every year.

In the suburbs of Barnaul and along the river Ob' grow so-called band type forests, which present a unique natural phenomenon which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. They create a special microclimate with pure air which is rich in negative ions which, in their turn, have a rejuvenating effect. Here you can find numerous ski bases, ski tracks as well as health resorts which use the most modern treatment methods. The most famous resorts are “Barnaulskiy” and “Ob”.

Another health resort “Sunrises above the Biya” is located nor far away from Byisk. The main curative factor there is natural mineral water which contains silver and which is used mostly for treatment of urological diseases.

The visiting card of health tourism of the region is the resort city of a federal importance Belokurikha. The main curative factor of this resort is radon water, which belong to the group of nitrogen and silicium thermal waters with a high level of fluorine and microelements. Radon water relieves pain and inflammation, increases the immune system and calms nerves. 15 health resort centers operate in Belokurikha.

Altai is also famous for the treatment using antlers of Siberian stags. They have been used in oriental medicine for thousands of years for the production of different medical mixtures which have a strong recovering effect. By the way, Altai stag is an endemic, and the curative properties of its antlers are passed on the genetic level. Today over 30 Siberian stag breeding farms operate in the region.

Die Jahreszeiten der Altai Region sind nicht vorhersagbar. Im Sommer steht am Morgen Nebel, am Mittag herrscht Hitze und in der Nacht kommt ein Gewitter.

Snow and winter

Der Schnee bedeckt den Boden erst Mitte November und fängt an zu schmelzen Anfang April. Die Niederschlagsmenge beträgt 40-60 cm.

Der Winter im Altai dauert eine lange Zeit und bringt viel Schnee und strenge Fröste. Eines Winters bauen die Kinder kleine und große Schneemänner überall,  und anderes Winters ist der Boden mit Schnee kaum bedeckt. Aber jeden Winter fahren alle Ski, laufen Schlittschuhe oder rodeln.

Die Flora der Altairegion zählt 1184 Arten von Pflanzen, darunter mehr als 100 Heilpflanzen, deren Verwendung in Medizin offiziell erlaubt ist.

Das sind: Rosenwurzel,  Maralwurzel,  Süßklee,  Nord-ostasiatische Pfingstrose,  Echtes Süßholz u.s.w.  Es gibt auch solche Heilpflanzen, deren Kultur zu kompliziert ist und deren Naturvorräte die einzige Quelle der Rohstoffe für Heilmittelproduktion darstellen. Das sind Adonisröschen, Preiselbeere, Sumpfcalmus, Nuphar lutea.
